Gioana Lopizzo, a junior at La Costa Canyon High in California, placed second in the Bill Buettner girls championship race at the 43rd ASICS Clovis Invitational, covering the 5-kilometer course in 17:28.0 at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif. Lopizzo improved from running 19:11.3 on the same layout last year at the Division 3 girls state final.
