Gioana Lopizzo, a junior at La Costa Canyon High in California, placed second in the girls championship race at the CHAMPS Sports West Regional at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. Lopizzo covered the 5-kilometer layout in 18:05 to become the third athlete in program history to advance to the CHAMPS Sports national final, including the first since Kristin Fahy in 2018. Lopizzo, the reigning San Diego Section Division 3 champion, is scheduled to compete Dec. 10 at Balboa Park's Morley Field.
