MISSOURI STATE MEET

Kickapoo Edges Rock Bridge For Class 5 Boys Crown

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

Sophomore Andrew Hauser of Rock Bridge kept the Class 5A boys cross country title in the family, winning in a time of 14:52.7 at the Missouri state cross country championship meet at Gans Creek Park in Columbia.

Last year, his older brother Matthew won the race.

Rock Bridge wasn't able to maintain the team title, however. Despite a 1-4 finish up front or Rock Bridge, it was Kickapoo taking the win by four points (78-82). Kickapoo went 8-9-13-15 on the way to the victory.

Liberty North duo Ethan Lee (14:59.7) and Sage Wilde (15:06.6) finished second and third, and he team was third.

Junior Grace Tyson from Lafayette (Wildwood) won the girls individual title in 17:42.9. She moved up one spot from second in 2020.

Blue Springs South scored 89 points to win the team championship. Mya Trober placed fifth for the team and the 2-5 scorers all packed up between 29th and 39th place overall.

The Festus boys were every bit as strong as Kickapoo and Rock Bridge, and probably better at No. 5, on the way to victory in the Class 4 meet with a low score of 38 points. Jacob Meyers (15:18.4) was second and one of four Festus runners under 15:41. Overall winner Caleb Lind of Lutheran (St. Charles) won the individual title in 15:15.2.

West Plains won the girls Class 4 title with 59 points with help from a 1-2 finish up front with twins sisters Jordan and Brayden Kantola running 18:28.5 and 18:29.4.
